I first joined the team behind the Half-Life mod Sands of War (SoW) as a tester. Shortly after I started to map to hopefully create an official SoW map. Before that was finished, however, SoW ran out of programmers. I volenteered as I had already looked through the Half-Life SDK. Within in the first week I fixed two major bugs that had previously prevented SoW from even running. Over the next months I continued to fix and add new stuff, and we eventually made a public release. After a few years where we even started on a Half-Life 2 version, but the mod eventually died out as we simply did not have enough developers with enough time to create everything needed.

Sands of War uses some of the gameplay elements from Day of Defeat and mixes it with a more modern day weapon selection and combat style inspired by, among others, Counter-Strike. It is actually kind of fun and can even encourage a more tactical aproach. It just is not finished enough to really be succesful.
