I use Windows on all of my computers. I have once tried Ubuntu in an attempt to be more geekish. Back then it was a mess and even the smallest things seemed to be almost impossible to get to work. So I never left Windows. All of my games and the applications I usually use also only (some of them at least) work on Windows.
Following is a list of some of my primary applications I use.
| NetBeans | I use this at work (and now also at home) when I develop websites in PHP. It is not perfect at all but usually quite powerful. |
| Notepad++ | I used to use this for PHP development at home, but now it is more of a sweet editor to work with all kinds of text files. |
| Visual Studio | Without a doubt the most powerful and excelent IDE. I use it for C# and C++ development. |
| Opera | Kind of silly to have a headline called Browser here as there really is only one: Opera. It has been the first on the market with almost every common browser features. It contains a shitload of other features (where I only use the mail-client). It has without a doubt the best usability experience and it is fast! |
| Others | Because I develop stuff for the web I have also installed other browsers (as too few have realized the beauty of Opera :P ). These are: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and of course the horrific Internet Explorer. |
| WinAmp | For music I use WinAmp. It does not require anything to run, is fast and very simple yet powerful. In my opinion it is much better than both Windows Media Player and iTunes who both have serious control-issues. A simply thing such as the jump feature is enough to beat the rest. To make WinAmp even simpler I have made a skin that uses the colours, black and red, from my old Counter-Strike clan, Klan109. |
| Media Player Classic | For videos and DVDs I use Media Player Classic as it can handle everything and is so simply in its design and usage. It just works. Of course this is only when I have to play these on my computer as I would otherwise use my PlayStation 3 or Media Box. |
| XBMC | On my mini-PC I use XBMC as the primary media player and as a media server. I have not tried anything else like it and it works just fine. |
